§ 2008 TWV Chardonnay - $25

After a few years in the bottle this chardonnay is drinking at its peak, and is in big demand from some of Tassie’s top restaurants simply because it is different to many existing chardonnay’s on the market. The wines palate is savory and complex, with hints of attractive peach and nectarine.
On the nose I get nuances of shucked oyster minerality, peaches, grapefruit and creamy lees. Some have said this wine has “the funk”, or the “stink”…characteristic of many old world chardonnay styles.
Top UK wine writer Mathew Jukes summed this up when he tried it in Australia last month, saying:
“this restrained, mildly oaked chardonnay is likely to appeal to Europhiles because the fruit is fine, discreet and savoury. With light, floral, honeysuckle-kissed notes and a clean, dry, elegant finish this is an atypical Aussie Chardy, but one which shines a light on Tasmania and its new found vinous confidence and also a foodier style of chardonnay which doesn’t bludgeon the senses, but woos the olfactory system with its charms!”.
This wine is better suited to those totally into their chardonnays, or those wanting to drink wine with food. We are down to around 50 cases of this wine so be quick if you are game to get with the funk!
§ 2009 TWV Chardonnay - $25
We are official releasing the 2009 chardonnay for sale this summer. The wine is also lightly oaked, but more fruit driven than the 2008 and bound to please most drinkers. It still has the savoury complexity and big “mouth feel” of all our previous chardonnay’s , but it is crisp, creamy and elegant more than it is chunky-funky! Upfront fruit is sweet nectarine with a citrus backbone.
A good compromise for those who are tired sav blanc drinkers looking for a crisp wine with serious style….but are trying to avoid the heavily oaked, yellow fruit bomb chardonnays of old.
Drinking well now but worth putting down for up to 5 years.
§ 2009 TWV Riesling - $20
Unfortunately our multi award winning 2008 Riesling sold out very quickly. The 2009 has similar characteristics but has better acidity and length than the 2008. With a few years in the bottle, it is starting to show it’s true character –as good, well made Riesling should.
Its nose is floral and spicy with hints of minerality. Its palate is sweet citrus with a stronger lime influence. Some strange chocolate cream and bready nuances blended in as well (probably from the ferment!).
Top UK Wine writer Mathew Jukes rated the wine very highly on his recent Australian visit believing it is a good compromise between “new” (Australian) and “old “(Germanic) world styles!
“ Modern Aussie Riesling is forging a massive reputation abroad and it is the dry style which is king. Internationally, Germany still rocks everyone’s boats, but these wines are often “off dry”. Three Wishes has cleverly used their unique Tassie climate to fashion a dry wine, but with a kiss of grapiness on the finish. It is one step towards the styles of wines made in Mosel in Germany, but still keeping the whole delivery refreshing enough to appeal to the modern palate. This tactic results in three particular plus points-this is a wine that will appeal to a mass audience at the same time as appealing to globally aware wine nerds, it is lower in alcohol than many other Rieslings, and it is stunningly refreshing with Asian fusion –food. Three Wishes granted! “.
Crisp now but will be at its “complex best” in 5 plus years. Good with Asian for spicy food.
§ 2008 TWV Pinot - $40

This is probably the most commercial pinot we have made, winning several medals at wine shows in the past 3 years. Saying that, it is characteristically Three Wishes, with a great deal of mystery and surprise in store for “pinotphiles” (serious pinot drinkers)!
Wow, how do you write up this wine? Its nose is savory and earthy with some smoky oak and sweet berry fruits, and just a hint of beetroot and herbs.
Its palate is strong and powerful with good acidity and length. It is guaranteed to cellar well as it changes (some would say develops!) considerably once opened.
